A Hearty Cheer for Salmon Recipes!

Among fish that are popular are salmon, tuna and sardines. Salmon in particular can be made into many preparations and salmon recipes include smoked salmon, baked salmon, fresh salmon, frozen salmon, etc

 Wild and Farmed Salmon

Salmon is available in two forms – wild and farmed. Wild salmon grows naturally in the sea and is not bred. Farmed salmon, on the other hand is bred with the sole purpose of commercial sale.

Both versions of the fish are excellent for health and suit all types of salmon recipes. Even canned salmon is not harmful and liable to being tarnished as other canned fish.

Salmon is usually recommended for individuals with heart disease as it is high in protein and omega-3 fatty acids. These fats are not like the unhealthy saturated fats in most meat.

 Essential Fatty Acids

Omega-3 fatty acids bring down the risk of heart arrhythmias, which can lead to sudden cardiac arrest. They reduce triglyceride levels, discourage the formation of atherosclerotic plaque, and they lower blood pressure marginally.

Salmon is also reduces the risk of diabetes and osteoporosis.

Smoked salmon is popular in many salmon recipes especially salads. But what exactly is this variety of the fish? Smoked salmon is cured in a solution of salt and sugar and then smoked.

Cold-smoked salmon is smoked at a low temperature. It is then made into fillets by slicing it. On the other hand, hot-smoked salmon is smoked at high temperatures and has a cooked flavour.

The only precautionary warning is that individuals with high blood pressure may want to avoid the smoked variety of the fish due t its high sodium content.

Besides proteins and omega-3 fatty acids, salmon is a good source if vitamins and minerals like iodine and selenium. Our body needs all kinds of vitamins and minerals in small quantities to synthesize various chemicals.
